OBJECTIVES By the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to: - identify and pronounce the words yogurt, yams, yo-yos, zoo, zebu, and zebra - spell and recognize the words yogurt, yams, yo- yos, zoo, zebu, and zebra II. INPUT Language: - Vocabulary: yogurt, yams, yo-yos, zoo, zebu, and zebra Resources/Material: - Student’s book page 46 - Teacher’s guide pages 92-94 - Website sachmem - Flashcards yogurt, yams, yo-yos, zoo, zebu, and zebra - Computer, projector III. Warm-up – Circle and match. Then say. – Let’s PROCEDURE play. - Wrap up Classroom Procedure Teaching and learning activities management Warm-up 5 minutes Option 1: Revising the sounds and words Whole class work - Show flashcards: Show flashcards and ask pupils to say: yogurt, yams, yo- yos, zoo, zebu and zebra. Duc Lang primary school ENGLISH 2- The 2nd semester - Game: Pass the ball Individual work/group Give flashcards for pupils to pass with work the music, then when the music stops, those who get the flashcards will say the words. Individual work Option 2: Singing Whole class work - Give some pupils the flashcards yogurt, yams, yo-yos, zoo, zebu, and zebra. - Ask the whole class to sing the songs in Unit 9 and Unit 10 together. - Have pupils holding the flashcards stand up and show flashcards when they sing the words they are holding. - Lead to Activity 1, Fun time 3. 1. Circle and match. Then say. 12 minutes Step 1 Have pupils look at each picture and say the Whole class work words. Ask What do you see? Step 2 Ask pupils to look at the pictures then circle Whole class work the letters to make words correctly. Then say. Individual work Explain how to do the task. Model with the first word if necessary. “What’s the first letter of Yoyo? (letter Y). Now, let’s find and circle the word yo-yo.” Do the same with the others. Give further support to those pupils who find it difficult to do the task. Step 3 Have pupils exchange their answers in pairs Pair work/ or groups. Ask them to point to the words Individual work and say them until they feel confident. Go around and give further support to those who find it difficult to do the task. Point to each word and encourage pupils to say it. Step 4 Call some pupils to write the words on the Individual work/ board, ask them to say in front of the class pair work (as many pupils do it as possible), then practice speaking in pairs. Extension: After the pupils find the words and Group work pronounce them, organize a short game. Whole class work Divide the class into two teams. Call on one pupil from each team to go to the board. Call out a word and the two pupils have to write them on the board. Give a point to each correct word. Pupils from the teams take turns to write the words. (to make it easier, teacher spells the words for the pupils to write) 2. Let’s play: What and where. 13 minutes Step 1 Write target words (yogurt, yams, yo-yos, Individual work zoo, zebu, and zebra) on the board. Draw a circle around each word. Tell pupils to look, read and remember the words. Give instruction: Teacher will erase words one by one, pupils must try to remember it. To the second word, pupils must try to remember the first and second ones. Continue until all the words erased and pupils can say all five from memory. Step 2 Model the game. Erase the word yogurt. Whole class work/ Pupils raise hands to say the erased word. Individual work Follow the same procedure with the rest. Step 3 Have the whole class play the game. Option 1: Group work Give each flashcard for a pupil to show for other pupils say the words in groups (make a competition). Option 2: Whole class work Teacher holds all the flashcards, show them one by one, then have the pupils guess what the next flashcard is. - Tell pupils to practise saying the letters, sounds and words at home.
