By the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to: OBJECTIVES - - recognize the words they have learnt. - - read the words they have learnt. - - write the letter to complete the words. II. Warm-up – Read and tick.– Find the words – PROCEDURE Write the letters – Homelink. Procedure Teaching and learning activities Warm-up 5 minutes Option 1: Have pupils sing the chants from Unit 9 and 12 to revise the words and structures they have learnt. If pupils do not remember the songs, play the recording for them to sing along. Ask them what words appear in the songs. Stick the flashcards of the words on the board. Option 2: Have pupils play the game Slap the board to revise the sounds and words they learnt in previous units. - Lead to Activity 4, Review 3. 4. Draw pupils’ attention to the boxes next to the letters a and b. Step 2 Ask pupils to look at the words in Whole class question 1. Model with this Individual work question. Invite one pupil to read the word and choose a or b. Confirm the correct answer. Step 3 Get pupils to read the word/phrases Whole class in other questions and tick the Individual work correct boxes, saying Now read and tick the correct pictures, please! Give further support to those pupils who find it difficult to do the task. Step 4 Ask pupils to work in pairs and to Pair work swap their work, saying Now work in pairs and check each other’s answers. Give pupils time to work. Go around and offer help, if necessary. Give further support to those pupils who find it difficult to do the task. Step 4 Have pupils exchange their answers in Pair work pairs or in groups before checking as class. Homelink 5 minutes Option 1: Write a chant with some sentences from Exercise 5 on the board and have pupils read them together. E.g. Look at the bus. Look at the truck. That’s a lake. ... Option 2: Stick some flashcards on the board. Write some words on the board. Have pupils match. - Tell pupils to practise saying the words and sentences at home. INPUT Language: - Sound /n/ - Vocabulary: nuts, noodles, bananas Resources/Material: - Student’s book p.57 - sachmem.vn - Flashcards for Unit 13 - Poster for Unit 13 - Teacher’s guide pp. 139-141 - Computer, projector III. Warm-up – Listen and repeat – Point and say – Game – PROCEDURE Homelink Procedure Teaching and learning activities Classroom management Warm-up 5 minutes - Have pupils greet and introduce Whole class themselves. - Option 1: Have a few pairs of pupils read Phil and Sue, Page 54 (Student’s book) in front of the class. - Option 2: Invite one group of pupils to play Kim’s game with the target vocabulary items they have learnt. - Have pupils open the books and look at Unit 13, Lesson 1 p.57, saying Open the books and look at Unit 3, Lesson 1 (Page 57). 1. Listen and repeat. 10 minutes Step 1: Have pupils look at the picture Whole class describe it, saying Look at the picture and describe it, please! Individual work Ask pupils to point to the letter N/n. Have them listen and repeat the sound of the letter N/n, saying Point Individual work Step 3: to the letter N/n, listen and repeat, please! more than once, if necessary. Tell pupils to point to the packet of nuts and/or the word nuts in the picture, to listen to the recording and repeat the word nuts, saying Point to the nuts, listen and say. Then play Individual work the recording again, if necessary, for Step 4: pupils to do choral and individual Pair or group work repetition. Correct pronunciation, if necessary. Step 5: Repeat the same procedure with the Whole class other pictures or/and words. Correct pronunciation, if necessary. Have them listen, point to the letter Step 6: N/n, the pictures and say the sound of the letter and the words in pairs or groups until they feel confident. Give further support to those pupils who find it difficult to do the task, if necessary. Call a few pupils to say the letter N/n and the words Nick, noodles, nuts and bananas in front of the class, saying Good job! when they performed well. 2. Point and say. 10 minutes Step 1: Have pupils look at the picture again Whole class and describe it, saying Look at the picture and describe it, please! Draw their attention to the Step 2: letter N/n, Nick and the food, if Individual work necessary. Pair or group work Go around and offer help, if Step 4: necessary. Do the same procedure with the Whole class other things. Go around and correct pronunciation, if necessary. Give Step 5: further support to those pupils who find it difficult to do the task. Ask pupils to work in pairs or in groups to look at the picture, point to the letter N/n, the boy and the food and say the sound of the letter N/n and the words Nick, noodles, nuts and bananas. Invite some pupils to point to the picture and say the sound of the letter and the words in front of of the class. Fun corner Labelling 10 minutes Step 1: Tell pupils how to play the game. Whole class Put pupils into two groups of three or four and give each group a set of Step 2: flashcards with words on them. Group work Say one of the words (e.g. noodles) and have the group select an appropriate word, e.g. noodles, run the board and stick to the correct picture. If the word matches the Step 3: picture, the group wins. The game Group work continues with the other pictures. Extension: The game ends when all the pictures are gone. If time allows, have some groups play the game again. Homelink 3 minutes Option 1: Pupils practise pronouncing the Whole class sound of the letter N/n and saying the words Nick, noodles, nuts and Option 2: bananas (in Student’s books or sachmem). Option 3: Pupils play Labelling with the words they have learnt or the game in sachmem. Pupils point to Poster for Unit 13 and say sentences with the structure: Nick’s having noodles.
